The Inangahua Book Swap fridge was established outside the Hall in 2023 to provide a fresh variety of reading material for our community and the many travellers passing through.  Judy is doing a fantastic job of monitoring the fridge and topping up the books as needed by seeking donations from wherever she can find them.

Inangahua is a 20 to 30 minute drive from the nearest library so the Book Swap fridge is a great asset for the community providing an ever changing variety of reading material.  Travelers also take advantage of the Book Swap to change their books as they are passing through.  Some leave other things they no longer need - sunglasses,  hats, drink bottles - which are then taken by others who need them.

The books come from local libraries who donate them,  the Granity Book Exchange drop off the odd box for us, travelers, and locals donate books and magazines as their needs change or they have a clear out. Family Planning has donated self-help books for new parents as have other service providers.

Reading is the most popular pass time in the world and so important to us all. It enables us to learn about new places, learn new skills or to fill our leisure time. We can disappear into a book for a while for pleasure or for a break from the everyday stresses of life.  Our children learn to love reading and books by their parents who read to them taking them into the wonderland if their imagination through stories and tales of faraway things.

The Inangahua Book Swap fridge is there for everyone to enjoy, 24 hours a day, so make the most of it! You may be surprised by the variety and scope of the reading material - non-fiction, fiction,  children's books,  travel articles,  magazines,  self-help books.
